Embedded Software Engineer

Job Description

Design, develop and support bootloader and Linux kernel services, device drivers, command/utilities, and development kits/reference designs for AppliedMicro processors.  Participate in new chip or board bring-ups and software deliveries to customers. 

Responsibilities

• Development and support of Linux bootloaders and kernels services to support various peripheral drivers (Ethernet, SATA, USB, PCI/PCIe, I2C/SPI, NAND/NOR Flash)
• Development and support of Linux applications and Web Management for our various reference designs such as Wireless Access Point/Router, Network Attached Storage, Media Server/Player, Security devices, etc.
• Participation in cross-functional project teams encompassing different technical disciplines from ASIC Design to Validation
• Support Field Applications Engineers to drive APM’s customers to production.
• Provide Professional Services type software development for customers’ own designs including design reviews, system bring-up, applications development and trouble shooting.

Qualifications

• Proficient in C or C++ programming with basic understanding of assembly language.
• 2-5+ years of experience with BS or MS in  Computer Engineering/Electronics Engineering or equivalent
• Background in kernel programming, kernel services and device driver development
• Capable of reading and understanding hardware interface specifications and creating software that interfaces with the hardware.
• Good English communications skills, both verbal and writing
• Willing to take on frequent or extended international travel for project development or customer support

Additional skills:

Any of the following is highly desirable but not required:

• Bootloader/Linux OpenSource development
• Working knowledge of other RTOS such as PSOS, VxWorks
• Knowledge of TCP/IP Networking, Wireless Networking, Graphics and Video programming or processing, Voice Over IP, etc.
• Experience with microprocessor architectures (PowerPC, ARM, MIPS, …)
• Experience with embedded real-time applications
